Stupid Horse by EaterOfWorlds Stupid Horse by EaterOfWorlds
Maybe I should have put this under fanart from movies instead....Bah, I like the book a lot more than the movie so....meh, whatever.
Of course this is a scene from "The Neverending Story." This would, of course, be part 2 of the series that I'm doing. It's another drawing that had to be photographed rather than scanned so if you're wondering why it looks awful, and seems like it's ill-proportioned, or looks like it's at a funny angle, that's why. ;p
I'm not entirely sure if this one is 100% finished, but it's well enough along that I can move on to something else now, and just leave it for when I make finishing adjustments to all the pieces in the series.
On another note, my sister's going to hate this drawing because, when she saw the movie, this scene made her cry. She likes horsies, I guess.
I hope you like it at least to some degree, and I'm sure you'll like the next one a lot better! ;) But I'm not saying anything else...

Awww, I know it was so sad! I've never been one to cry over movies, though. not even when I was little...you know, cuz I'm a big tough! (yeah right)
Anyway, I'm glad you appreciate it! :D

Indeed. It's too bad, though, that I didn't do a better job on this. there's way to much empty space right there....right smack in the middle, where everyone can see it.

I remember this scene, both from the book and the first movie which was only part one of the book. They did make another movie which was the other part of the book, but they switched actors and stuff so it wasn't as good as the first one.

I like the shading here. The horse is very well drawn, much better than the rest of the drawing. The background is a bit boring, and Atreyu's face could do with some more work.

I thought so, too! I kind of hated this drawing, but everyone insisted that I not trash it. behold, however, someone DID buy it for a faily high price. (This amazes me).
Was the second movie based on the second part of the book? I don't know, I had seen it so long ago, and then vowed to never watch it again if only because the casting was so bad. Oh well. Maybe someday in the far future someone will remake the movies, and make them not suck quite as much. Or they COULD make them suck more...you know how it goes sometimes. But then at least the old movies will good in comparrison. :P

I found one copy of it at the Borders next to where I work. It was kind of expensive to buy it from a book store, though. Your best bet is to do what I did and just order it on Amazon, or something.

Yep! From the first movie, because all the other movies are dead to me. I'm going to pretend that they don't exist because they were the most awful sequels/spinoffs I had ever seen in my life. But I still like the original. :D
The book, of course, was way better...but then, it always happens that way, doesn't it? ;p

i've never read the book but i do have to agree with you the book is ALWAYS better then the movie....so much more in details :P

i also agree with the stupid sequals the first movie was the best and the 2nd and 3rd were stupid they made remakes of them and i saw a clip on TV...it's worse then the first 3rd sequal if that makes any sense....or was it a TV show.....i dunno it was just bad that's all i know

This one has got to be the most perfect example of a book that's better than a movie. I remember when my husband was reading it, before I got a chance to, and he showed me one day that he had finished a little less than half the book. So I'm like "Ok...whatever..." But then he says "No, you don't understand....this is where the movie ends....they completely left out MOST of the story!!!"
Needless to say, I was astonished. And then I find out that they completely left out several characters, too, that were very important. As much as I still like the original movie, I can see why the book's writer didn't want anything to do with it. :(
Yeah...I didn't even watch the TV series. I don't even know how long it lasted. :|

I'm glad you like it! I still think it needs a few adjustments, but I'm happy to see that people still like it as is. It's definitely a scene everyone recognizes.
Curtis is doing good, by the way, and still has that hot ass that people fav at least once a week over on my stock account. lol! ;)

this is brilliant! I love The Never Ending Story, and i got really frustrated with the horse in this scene. Do you plan to draw the Oracles (those two statues that face eachother that shoot beams from their eyes)?
The tonal work here is very good, well done!

Actually I do plan on drawing the pair of sphinx, but not until a bit later on. It's really too bad that the movie used them in such a....wierd....kind of stupid way.....You'll understand what I mean if you ever read the book. In the book, the sphinx aren't statues, and they don't shoot lazers out of their eyes and kill people. To tell you the truth, I haven't read it myself yet, but my husband tells me that they, instead of shooting lazers, simply catch people in their stare and then ask them every single riddle ever imagined...so you just get caught there for the rest of your life answering riddles....until you die of starvation, I guess.
